 Talus Edge Desk

California Elm, Patina Brass

80”X32”X30”

This piece was brought to Next Bevel from a client who saw a similar desk designed in France. They had a few specific design tweaks, and after discussing all material options, the decision was made to build the desk out of a slab of California elm and brass panels.

The elm was cut into veneers and glued to a substrate into a sequential, book matched pattern. The brass panels started as a .05mm thick sheet of brass, glued to a substrate similarly to the elm, but it was then burnished with a patina that left a warm glow to the metal.

The brass writing pad is perfectly flush with the top of the desk, and makes for a perfect writing surface.

This desk looks different from every angle it is viewed from. This is due to the unique reflective nature of the brass patina and the natural oil finish on the elm.
